Top 5 Albums of 2018

5) Mitski- Be the Cowboy

The fifth album Mitski released in 2018, “Be the Cowboy” is her greatest to date. The album tells a different story on each of the 14 tracks in an elegant yet complex manner. Due to her ability to be concise in each individual song, Mitski is able to dive into many varying musical styles.

4) MGMT- Little Dark Age

MGMT released their first project since 2013. In 2018 and in my opinion, they knocked it out of the park. The album is filled with synth-funk grooves and psychedelic themes. My personal favorite tracks are “Little Dark Age” and “Me and Michael.”

3) Turnstile- Time & Space

One of the best early releases of 2018 was Turnstile’s album, “Time & Space.” This is their first album they’ve released with Roadrunner Records and it’s only 25 minutes long. However, it’s a fast paced and hardcore album. From the opening track “Real Thing” to the last each song has influence from those that came before them.

2) Snail Mail- Lush
Ellicott City native Lindsey Jordan released her debut album, “Snail Mail,” in 2018. It was one of her best projects of 2018, because it was an emotional indie rock album about her teenage struggles and is filled with catchy guitar riffs on almost of the tracks

Kanye West and Kid Cudi left their previous troubles behind him and collaborated on their duo’s debut album, KIDS SEE GHOSTS. The collaboration consists of themes of alienation and sadness to feelings of jubilant and triumph. Musically it’s a psychedelic album that is similar to rap and the album is consistently great from track to track.
